The quality of the people that you spend your time around inevitably ends up becoming you. It is key to realize this early and often.
Today, I’m gonna talk about the importance of the people in your life and the people you surround yourself with.
Your friends are everything. Your team is everything. The quality of the people that you spend your time around inevitably ends up becoming you. It is key to realize this early and often because, as I’ve come to grow in life, I’ve started to realize that I’ve been wanting to do entrepreneurship for the longest time, but a big part of the reason why I didn’t really get started was because I didn’t have the right team.
I realized that I don’t enjoy doing things by myself as much, and that having the right team makes the whole difference in the world. So I’ve come to focus on and enjoy having a team that’s proactive, that cares, that matters, and that gets the job done. I realized that this is much more valuable than I thought. It was more important than I thought it was.
And the same applies to friendships, for that matter.
At the end of the day, they say you are the mix of the people you relate to the most, and I’ve come to realize that not only is that true, but it is fundamentally important who you spend your time with as well. Not just who you relate to, because inevitably your environment shapes you.
And if you’re spending time with people you do not want to be like, there are some habits that will stick. Or even worse, there will be unhappiness in your life. You won’t be satisfied. You won’t be spending your life in the best way that you enjoy. That’s even scarier.
Recently, being outside of my friend group and spending time with another group of people that I know, but not too well, on a trip made me realize and appreciate my friendships all that much more. It made me realize how valuable these friendships are and just how great all of my friends are.
I’ve always taken it for granted. I’ve always known that they’re great people, but seeing it firsthand just adds to it so much more. And it makes it key to never settle for those types of friendships and to put yourself in a group where you truly feel like you belong and that you enjoy. Never settling for anything less is important.
So think about that.
Think about who your friends are and whether they’re the people that you want to be like. What is the person that you want to be like? Are you emulating that? What’s the team that you want? What’s the thing that you want to build, and do you have the right team to build it?
All of these questions are questions that I wish I would’ve asked myself way earlier in my life. I think they would’ve helped me skip a few steps along the way.
